1. Structure & Operating Principle

Precision Close Clearance: The lantern restrictor is a T-shaped or straight sleeve that fits snugly over the shaft sleeve with incredibly tight radial clearances.

Controlled Water Flow: Unlike a standard lantern ring that freely distributes flush water, the restrictor acts as a choke point. It forces the seal water to form a high-velocity, micro-thin liquid barrier between itself and the shaft sleeve.

Slurry Exclusion: This high-velocity water barrier flows inward toward the pump casing, creating a positive pressure zone that physically blocks abrasive slurry particles from migrating back into the packing area. Because the clearance is so tight, it achieves this sealing effect using only a fraction of the water volume required by traditional packing setups.
2. Common Specifications

Flow Reduction: Engineered to reduce gland seal water consumption by up to 50% to 80% compared to standard lantern rings.

Configuration: Positioned at the very bottom of the stuffing box (closest to the impeller) to intercept slurry before it reaches the compression packing.

Because this component experiences high-velocity water flow and potential contact with abrasive fines, it is made from durable, low-friction materials:

PTFE / Teflon (Graphite-Filled): Offers excellent self-lubricating properties and chemical resistance, reducing friction wear on the shaft sleeve.

Polyurethane / Engineered Plastics: Highly resistant to erosion and impact from stray solids.

Bronze or Stainless Steel: Used in high-pressure or high-temperature applications where structural rigidity is critical.
